l/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup water
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 375'F. Blend the butter and 
shortening in a large bowl, add the sugar, water, 
egg, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir briskly until blended. 
Mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Beat until 
smooth. Stir in the raisins and walnuts. Drop by 
rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets,
leaving 2 inches between cookies. Bake for 8 to 10 
minutes, or until light golden brown around edges. 
Transfer to racks to cool.
