Mulled Cider

1 quart cranberry juice
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
Peel from 1 orange and 1 lemon
1 cinnamon stick
6 whole cloves
6 whole allspice berries
1 quart apple cider
Lemon slices studded with whole cloves

In a large nonaluminum saucepan, combine cranberry juice, sugar, 
peels and spices.  Bring to boil, lower heat and simmer for 10
minutes.  Strain and return liquid to saucepan.  Stir in cider and
reheat but do not boil.  Ladle in heatproof cups and serve topped
with lemon slices.
