       1 1/2  pounds        lean beef -- cut in 1" cubes
       2      tablespoons   flour
       2      tablespoons   butter
       2      tablespoons   corn oil
       2                    celery ribs -- cut in chunks
       1      cup           beef stock
         1/2  teaspoon      salt
         1/4  teaspoon      pepper
         1/2  teaspoon      dried thyme
         1/2  teaspoon      dried marjoram
       1      teaspoon      prepared mustard
       2      tablespoons   fresh lemon juice
       3      tablespoons   chopped parsley
    
    Brown meat in butter and oil. Combine meat and remaining ingredients,
    except lemon juice and parsley, and place in a slow cooker. Cover and
    cook on low 6 to 8 hours. Stir in lemon juice and parsley and serve 
    with toast, noodles or potatoes.

                               Cream of Potato Soup

       6      cups          Hash brown Potatoes (frozen)
         1/2  cup           Carrots, sliced
       6      slices        Bacon
       1      cup           Celery, chopped
       1                    Onion, chopped
                            Cheddar Cheese, finely shredded
       1 1/2  teaspoons     Salt
       1      teaspoon      Pepper
       2      cups          Milk
       2      cups          Light cream or half-and-half
                            Parsley sprigs
    
    Combine all ingredients in crockpot without any pre-cooking and cook 
    on low all day.  You will want to do bacon separately or you may use 
    bacon bits for the crunchy taste.  TO COOK ON STOVE: Cook potatoes 
    and carrots in water until tender.  Drain.  Saute bacon until crisp; 
    drain and crumble.  Saute onion and celery in 2 tb.  bacon fat.  
    
    Combine all remaining ingredients, except shredded cheese and parsley, 
    and simmer for 30 minutes.  Don't boil.  Garnish with the shredded 
    cheese and parsley.
    Makes 2 quarts.

       2      16 oz cans    kidney beans, rinsed and drained
       2      14.5 oz cans  diced tomatoes, undrained
       1      8 oz can      tomato sauce
       2      med           onions, chopped
       1                    green pepper, chopped
       2      cloves        garlic, minced
       2      tbsp          chili powder
       2      tsp           salt, optional
       1      tsp           pepper
                            shredded cheddar cheese, optional
    
    In a skillet, brown beef; drain.  Transfer to a slow cooker.  Add the 
    next nine ingredients.  Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on 
    high for 4 hours.  Garnish individual serving with cheese if desired.

                        Slow-Cooked Meat Loaf and Potatoes

       2      medium        potatoes -- peeled and cut into
                            -- 1-inch cubes
       2      pounds        lean ground beef
       1      large         onion -- finely chopped
       1 1/2  cups          ketchup -- divided
         3/4  cup           crushed butter-flavored crackers
       2                    eggs
       2      teaspoons     salt
         1/3  cup           firmly packed brown sugar
         1/2  teaspoon      prepared mustard
    
    Place the potatoes in a slow cooker. In a large bowl, combine the 
    beef, onion, 3/4 cup ketchup, the cracker crumbs, eggs, and salt; mix 
    well. Place over the potatoes and pat down to form a loaf. In the 
    same bowl, combine the brown sugar, mustard, and the remaining 3/4 
    cup ketchup; mix well. Spread over top of loaf, cover, and cook on 
    the Low setting for 6 to 10 hours. Drain off excess liquid and serve.

       1 1/2  lbs.          beef round steak -- (1 1/2 to 2)
       2      tablespoons   cooking oil
         1/4  cup           soy sauce
       1      cup           chopped onion
       1      clove         garlic -- minced
       1      teaspoon      sugar
         1/2  teaspoon      salt
         1/4  teaspoon      pepper
         1/4  teaspoon      ground ginger
       4                    tomatoes -- wedged
       1      can           tomatoes, canned -- undrained
       2                    green bell pepper -- sliced
         1/2  cup           water
       1      tablespoon    cornstarch
                            cooked noodles
                            or cooked rice
    
       Cut beef into 3x1" strips; brown in oil in skillet. Transfer to a 
    slow cooker.  Combine the next seven ingredients; pour over beef. 
    Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or until meat is tender. Add 
    tomatoes and green peppers; cook on low for 1 hour longer.  Combine 
    the cold water and cornstarch to make a paste; stir into liquid in 
    slow cooker and cook on high until thickened. Serve over noodles or

       1      10 oz. pkg.   frozen whole kernel corn
       1      9 oz. pkg.    frozen cut green beans
       4      cups          hot-style vegetable juice
       1      can           {14 1/2 oz.}    Italian-style stewed
                            tomatoes -- undrained
       2      tablespoons   Worcestershire sauce
       1      teaspoon      dried basil -- crushed
         1/4  teaspoon      pepper
    
    1. In large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic till meat is 
    brown and onion is tender. Drain fat.
    2. In crockery cooker, combine meat mixture, coleslaw mix, frozen 
    corn, frozen green beans, vegetable juice, undrained tomatoes, 
    Worcestershire sauce, basil, and pepper.
    3. Cover; cook on Low setting for 8 to 10 hours or on High setting 
    for 4 to 5 hours.
